I’m Thomas, born in 1989 in The Netherlands. I love traveling and taking photo’s while I’m at it. I am by no means a professional photographer and have no intention of becoming one. Taking photo’s is a way to relax for me, to enjoy my travels and to give others an opportunity to enjoy my trips as well. I don’t want any financial dependence on my hobby.
Since I have a full time job, I travel just a couple of weeks a year, mostly accompanied by my girlfriend. That means my photography comes second place most of the time.
In July 2014 I set out on a foot trip from my hometown Nijmegen to Istanbul. That trip took me right across Europe to the border of Asia. The trip changed my life in more ways than one. This website started as a blog to keep friends and family posted about the adventure and has been live ever since. It was that time that I found the pseudonym TrekkingThomas applicable and have used that name ever since for my travelling alter ego.
I now find myself to be more and more a pilgrim in life. I guide pilgrimages in Italy, Holland and occasionally other countries as well. I am currently in the process of writing a book about The lessons for the pilgrim and am a frequently asked speaker on this topic and like to share my knowledge and experiences with others.
In 2016 I bought my first DSLR camera (Nikon D3200) and used it till may 2018 when I bought the D750 which I shoot with now. I like my camera’s to be durable so I do not have to worry a lot about them in the field. The same goes for my lenses. I never buy top-of-the-line lenses since I tent to be rather rough with my gear.
Anyway, since I don’t really have any specialty photography wise, you will find some different photo series on this website. They are my way of sharing art.
